Jerk when downshifting on my XKR, really hoping it’s not the gearbox giving up
I’ve got a 2012 Jaguar XKR that I absolutely adore but over the last month or so it’s developed this really annoying jerk when the ZF six speed drops from third to second as I’m slowing down for a roundabout and it’s making me nervous every time I drive it because I know how expensive these gearboxes can get when they decide to act up. The car has about one hundred ten thousand kilometers on it and I did a transmission service about twenty thousand kilometers ago at a place in Mussafah that seemed decent enough but now I’m wondering if they used the correct Lifeguard fluid or if they even reset the adaptations properly because the shifts just feel a bit lazier than they used to and that harsh downshift is definitely new. I’ve been trying to read up on whether this is a valve body issue or just a software thing that needs a reflash and I ended up spending way too long on exoticautoservices.ae/car-gearbox-and-transmission-repair last night where they had some pretty detailed information about how these ZF units behave when the solenoids start to wear out or the fluid level is slightly off which honestly made me feel both more informed and more paranoid at the same time. Has anyone in Abu Dhabi had a similar issue with an older ZF box and did a proper flush and adaptation reset actually solve it or am I looking at something more serious that’s going to require pulling the whole thing out?
