I especially like this statement you included this week ‘Digital Twins can be initiated at any time in the process, to tackle both new and legacy problems.’ I like that fact that this suggests the Twins must be developed with a purpose in mind. Be great to get your thoughts on whether you see twins as being created to solve specific problems or created alongside assets under the understanding that they will be required to resolve future challenges.Â

Thanks for posting this @Casey I think that this will stimulate some really interesting conversation and is particularly important at a time when such a high degree of ambiguity exists around what is and what isn’t a Digital Twin. @Mark Coates, @Tanguy and @Adam would be great to start off this conversation with your views.

Hi @Mark Coates , thanks for sharing this with us its great to see some of the work that is going on at Bentley. I will get this added to the community calendar so that everyone can see the event is happening. If you have any materials (papers, etc.) you would like to share please feel free to post them as well.Â

Thanks for sharing this Ian it does look from the surface that there would be some overlaps. Perhaps @Mark Enzer or @Peter might know some of the details.

My personal feeling is that although in a ideal world we would have a single twin that represents the entirety of an organisation the reality of the situation is that is just not feasible and therefore the hierarchical system is much more likely to reflect what we deliver. This is the approach that we are intending to take with the National Digital Twin ( @Miranda and @James Harris ). Structuring it in a hierarchical manner also presents an opportunity to limit the data that is exposed through the system. Â
One question that I always struggle to answer is how do we ensure that assumptions and errors are properly propagated through the system so that the decisions making process is able to correctly recognise these.Â
