Behind the buzz, digital twins are integral to the decarbonisation of our buildings. Using real-time data with simulation, machine learning and artificial intelligence, a true Digital Twin is indispensable in its ability to mirror the real-life performance of any building, enabling designers, operators and owners to optimise energy performance.

However, often used interchangeably with other terms like building information modelling (BIM), miscommunication threatens to devalue the real benefits of this technology. Furthermore, investing in solutions without a clearly defined use case or understanding of how solutions align to business needs, can further result in disillusionment and unmet client expectations.
