Schematic representation of transport networks
I’ve been thinking about how useful Digital Twins might first manifest themselves here in Highways England.
I’m increasingly convinced that representing the network as a schematic (e.g. simplified semi-spatial ‘tube map’ type) diagram but tying that schematic to real-world data feeds is a potentially promising route that does not require as sizeable an investment in software as other more spatial/model-based options.
This is probably stemming from having spent a fair bit of time in railway signal boxes, and seeing how schematic diagrams of the network remove a lot of unnecessary complexity from controlling train movements.
Does anyone have examples of where this kind of approach has been adopted successfully?
