Event roundup

This report is an excellent example of how Government and industry can come together to deliver innovation, and shows how valuable this technology could be to both the UK economy and the millions of people who rely on our transport networks every day. Aviation, Maritime and Security Minister, Mike Kane MP

This event hosted at Connected Places Catapult on Monday 11 November 2024 drew together over 60 people from government and the transport industry.

The focus was the publication of the Integrated network management digital twin: economic benefits analysis report by The Department for Transport (DfT), Arup and collaborators across the UK, including Connected Places Catapult.

Erika Lewis, Chief Executive of Connected Places Catapult, welcomed everyone to the meeting and highlighted the economic benefit themes of improved efficiency, enhanced decision-making, sustainability goals, job creation and economic growth. These were fully supported in the video message from Aviation, Maritime and Security Minister, Mike Kane MP. Read the press release and watch the video.

Ryan Hood from Arup presented the project overview, with Andy Emmonds from Transport for London, Paul Darlow from Portsmouth City Council and Anna Watt from Transport for West Midlands – covering three of the project case studies –  delivering the findings and future plans for their regions.

In a summary session led by Justin Anderson from Digital Twin Hub, George Economides from the Department of Transport, Alex Luck from the National Digital Twin Programme and Sam Li from Transport for Greater Manchester answered questions from the floor.

Learnings from this economic benefits analysis report will be relevant across multiple industry sectors.
