Skills & Capability

The National Digital Twin (NDT) programme is breaking down barriers to data sharing and one of the first steps taken is the development of the Information Management Framework (IMF) to drive effective information management across our nation’s built environment. The IMF will enable an ecosystem of connected digital twins, the National Digital Twin (NDT) - where high-quality data about the built environment is shared securely, on a massive scale to improve decision making across the UK.
However, achieving the National Digital Twin is not just a technical challenge. It will require a workforce with the right skills to play their part in supporting the exchange of secure and resilient data across organisations, sectors and the entire built environment in order to make meaningful data-driven decisions.
That is why CDBB commissioned a two-fold project leading to the publication of a Skills and Competency Framework and a Capability Enhancement programme.
The Capability Enhancement programme provides organisations and individuals with tools and guidance to understand and cultivate the skills and knowledge they need across the key roles set out in the Skills and Competency Framework. In particular, it sets out:
-
how organisations can assess and enhance their capabilities to implement the IMF and the National Digital Twin via internal training, recruitment, and partnering
- how individuals can assess and enhance their skills and competency through self-assessment, the choice of a career path (generalist, hybrid or specialist) and the development of bespoke training plans.
The Capability Enhancement Programme includes a self-assessment survey to help individuals assess their competency level against a chosen role and a training register that provides a starting point for individuals and organisations to develop a training plan.
The Skills and Competency Framework and the Capability Enhancement Programme are a starting point in a journey to help individuals and organisations acquire the skills needed to make the National Digital Twin a reality. We are looking for your involvement in testing this first iteration and would be very pleased to hear your thoughts.
